STAAR File Report Builder (EOC) Training 2019
This training is intended to show users how to generate reports from their uploaded STAAR EOC test results. At the end of this training users will have a full understanding of where the data comes from, what reports are available through the OnDataSuite STAAR EOC Custom Menu reporting section and will be able to generate their own ad-hoc reports from the STAAR EOC Report Center.
OnDataSuite File Center
Before you begin using OnPoint to review your student assessment data, you need to confirm that all of the necessary STAAR EOC data files have been uploaded into your OnDataSuite file center. Users are encouraged to locate and upload all assessment files to include any updated files received as they become available.
Uploading STAAR EOC Data Files
To upload a STAAR EOC file first click on the ‘file center’ link located at the top of the screen in the black menu bar then click on the ‘Data Sources’ link located in the black sub-menu bar.
Next, click on the STAAR EOC blue button to initiate the upload process or to view the files that have been currently uploaded into the system.
Review Uploaded Files Prior to Upload
Once you have clicked the STAAR EOC button you can review the files that have already been uploaded into the system by scrolling down to the bottom of the page. You should see a list of all the files that have been uploaded by date. You will also see the administrator that uploaded the files. File testing years and placement into the file center are determined by the data contained within the file and not by the name of the file.
If a file that is re-uploaded into the system is a duplicate, the system will overwrite the last file with the updated file.
Users can change the name of the file by clicking on the information ‘i’ icon located to the right of each field name.
Upload Data Files
After you have reviewed your current files in the system, if you have determined that you still need to upload more files, click on the Green ‘Click to upload STAAR EOC files’ button and locate and select the files on your local drive that you wish to upload into the file center. You may select multiple files at one time for upload. Data files are pulled from both the Pearson and ETS management
Verify File Type Prior to Upload
Once you have selected the files you will now see a ‘selected files for upload’ box. Please take a few moments to verify that the file you are uploading is NOT zipped and that it follows the acceptable format necessary for upload. Additionally, please make sure to indicate in the checkbox section if these files are SIRS files or For Review Only.
Submitting Files into File Center
After you have verified your data files are ready for upload simply click on the green ‘Start Upload’ button. If you need to cancel the upload process and restart click on the orange ‘Cancel Upload’ button.
3.STAAR EOC Assessment Tab
Uploaded student assessment files are accessed by clicking on the ‘Assessment’ tab in the blue OnPoint ribbon. Files will become available as you continue to populate your file center with your STAAR EOC Data files.
File Center Dependency
If you have not uploaded any data files into the file center the titles to these areas will appear in grey. Once you have uploaded any file for any year, the titles will appear as active links in white text and will be available.
STAAR EOC Files Available under Assessment Tab
STAAR and STAAR Alt files for grades EOC are available for all uploaded files in OnPoint and are viewed independently of one another.
4.STAAR EOC Custom Reports
STAAR EOC Custom Reports
OnPoint offers several pre-built custom reports that automatically search through your uploaded data files to provide you with overview assessment results. All results are dependent upon the data files that you have uploaded into your file center and will adjust accordingly as you enter updated files.
Users should be aware that all items reported within these categories are using the STAAR data files for coded search values and are not referencing the values as coded in the PEIMS systems. If discrepancies are found in the reported STAAR student data between your PEIMS submitted codes and what is being shown in OnPoint, these must be checked at the local level as OnDataSuite does not alter or change any of the values as they are uploaded into the system.
4.1.Repeaters, Course Completion Comparison
STAAR EOC with Repeaters, Course Completion Comparison
This reports combines both the PEIMS and Student Assessment data into one report that shows the students Spring, Summer and Fall test administration scores in combination with the Pass/Fail indicator code from their PEIMS record.
STAAR EOC Summary Report
View summary performance sheets displayed just like the PDF summary sheets reported by the state. You can search by tested subject, year, grade, administration, campus, language, test version, linguistically accommodated and also by teacher if your administrator has uploaded the necessary PEIMS related files.
All reported values can be drilled down to the student level of the by clicking on the aggregate reported counts in the report.

View assessment results displayed by three separate yet powerful reporting types. You can search by tested subject, year, grade, administration, campus, language and for the following displays.

4.4.Achievement vs. Growth Matrix
Achievement vs. Growth Matrix Report
The Achievement vs. STAAR Growth Matrix report displays a matrix of “Student Performance Level” by “STAAR Growth”. Students are listed in the matrix depending on where how they performed on the assessment.
In Order for the system to calculate the points needed for the student to move to the next level the user must run the report for a specific grade level. There must also be data present for each of the following fields, subject, year, scale score and language. If any of these fields are blank in the data file the system cannot calculate the needed points.

The all student who took a STAAR custom report provides a list by year of all uploaded student test files and displays the highest maximum scale score achieved by subject.
Note: SIRS files are incorporated into this report as well.
4.6.Cumulative Performance Analysis

Report can be filtered to show 1 or more through 5 or more EOC assessment failures.
Report will indicate in red highlight all student assessments that the student has failed along with the highest scale score per subject.
4.7.EOC Students Met Standard Counts
STAAR EOC Students Met Standard Counts
The STAAR EOC Students Met Standard Counts report provides a list of all students that have uploaded test files (multiple files are accepted) and determines if the student has passed or still needs to pass by subject. An indicator of ‘N’ in the column indicates that the student that did not meet the assessment requirements and an indicator of ‘Y’ indicates that the student has met the standard for the given subject.
STAAR Frequency Distributions Report
View a graphical representation of student performance on tested subjects. Combination selections can be made by subject, tested year, grade, campus, test version, administration month, language, test mode, ethnicity and/or special education. The reported view is assembled as follows:
Left Axis = Scale Score
Bottom Axis = # of students
RAW = Raw Score equivalent for the scale score
FREQ = Number of students achieving scale score
CUM = Cumulative Number of students achieving scale score
PCT = % of total students achieving scale score
CUM = Cumulative % of total students achieving scale score.
STAAR Test Administered
The STAAR test administered reports provide an overview list by student of all tested subjects and their academic levels of placement by teacher. To use this report begin by entering the name of the teacher in the ‘search for teacher’ drop down box. You will only need to add the first three characters of either the teachers first or last name and the system will generate a list of the names available. Next enter the year of the administration that you wish to review and click the submit button.
The association between the teacher of record and the student assessment results relies on the upload of the related teacher of record PEIMS file uploaded into the file center. If you are not seeing any names from within your search criteria, please check with your system administrator to confirm that these files have been uploaded.
Search results will appear as a color coded list by student and can easily be sorted by clicking on any column title at the top of the list.
Students who met satisfactory requirements for the exam will appear in green, those who did not meet the satisfactory requirements will be highlighted in red.
Found results can further be filtered by entering values into the open fields at the top of the reported list.
STAAR EOC Academic Performance
Immediately see the performance breakdown by subject, district, campus or focus group. Values are displayed for all assessment results uploaded and allow an at a glance year to year comparison view
By default this report will be filtered to the last file loaded. You will need to select the administration(s) you wish to include and review.
The returned report will break down your students performance by subject, then academic readiness standard.
The counts to the left of the report represent the total aggregate student count as reported within each readiness standard as coded in the data file uploaded from the assessment file.
Note: Some students can be in multiple readiness standard count numerators but will only be counted once in the Total Tested (Non-Duplicate Count)
(Example: Student A scored in both meets and masters, so they will be counted once in each cell, but they will only be counted once in the overall column total.
The percentage values on the right represent the total count of students in the cell to the left over the total non-duplicated count for the column.
The STAAR Differential report provides a side by side comparison of all students tested by campus, by subject, by grade for the most current year and the the previous year results. The default returned report results represent all tests that have been scored.
+/- Gain or loss scores are provided to the far right of each column and are color coded with red text if there was a decrease from the previous year. Increase values are represented by green text.
Students counted in the MET column represent any scored exam that was scored higher than the NOT MET standard.
Results can be filtered by the following options:
- Test Admin Mode (Paper/Online)
- Special Population (LEP, Migrant, SPED, GT, AtRisk, CATE, TITLE1 Part A (0,6,7,8,9), Economic Disadvantaged (0,1,2,9)
- Focus list may also be applied
% MET scores are color coded as follows
- < 49% = RED
- 50% – 69% = Grey
- 70% – 79% = Yellow
- 80% – 89% = Blue
- >90% = Green

Reporting Category Grouping
The reporting category will group all associated Student Expectations by reporting category that were tested for the specified administration.
RC MAST % – Reporting Category Mastery % is provided at the end of each grouped row which represent the total number of test items scored correctly over the total number of test items. Items that were missed will be highlighted in red.
RC MAST Total % – At the bottom of each list an RC Mastery # Total % calculates the grouped reporting category row met values over the entire grouped reporting category tested values to provide a total percentage for the found reporting category.
Example: Reporting Category 1 RC 1 Mast %
Student A: 8 tested items correct / 8 tested items = 100%
Student B: 7 tested items correct / 8 tested items = 87.5%
Student C: 6 tested items correct / 8 tested items = 75.0%
Student D: 8 tested items correct / 8 tested items = 100%
Total: 29 total tested items correct / 32 tested items = 90.6%
Student Expectation (SE) Category Grouping
The Student Expectation (SE) category will group all associated Student Expectations by reporting category item number that were tested for the specified administration.
SE % Total– At the bottom of each list an SE total % calculates the grouped SE row met values over the entire grouped SE tested values to provide a total percentage for the found SE.

The overall % correct by row represents the total number of missed items, total tested items and total correct responses per row for all reporting categories.

STAAR EOC Accommodations
Students that were coded with accommodations in the testing cycle are disaggregated by tested subject by accommodation coded. Depending on the users access privileges, users will be able to view the results at the ALL campus level or be given the option to search by campus using the drop down indicator located at the top of the screen. Users may also chose to further filter the search results by select focus lists if they are available.
5.STAAR EOC Report Center
STAAR EOC Report Center
OnPoint provides a intuitive report center that provides our users with a simple, step by step process to help create powerful and informative reports from uploaded assessment files. This process begins by accessing the the custom report center menu located on the left hand side of the assessment screen.
Report items are derived from the elements found in the uploaded assessment data files and can be drawn by administration data fields or by assessed subject data fields.
Creating a Report from the Report Center
To create a report you must first start with an initial search criteria selection from the report center. This tells the system which data table you want to pull your data from and specifies the number of years you will to include. When you make your first selection you will see a filter box appear to the right of the report center box. This first filter will show the date ranges of uploaded files available to draw your reports from. If left unchecked, your report will draw from all the years shown.
After you make your initial selection a ‘Criteria: 1’ selection option will appear at the bottom of the report center window. You can then begin to add search criteria elements and select filters to refine your report. (Indicated in green box)
Notice in the example below that for every item selected from the report center window the system will give you a filter option on the right hand side. If you choose not to establish a filter then all available results will be returned.
In the example above we created a simple report that shows the number of Algebra I tests administered for the the years 2016, 2017, 2018 filtered to show high school campuses only. Once you have completed your build click on the ‘Create Report’ button to run the report. Your results will be returned in the form of an overview report based on your selected criteria.
Adjusting / Refining Your Report
If you need to make adjustments to your report like add more filters or refining the selection criteria items, simply click the back button on your web browser and click the ‘Load Last Report’ button at the bottom of the report center.
After your report has been built OnPoint offers several report options. To access these options click on the ‘report options’ arrow located just above the header of your report on the right hand side. These are the available Report Options.
Show Percents – Will provide the percentage value of the reported yearly column results
Edit Report – Opens a window that will allow you to refine the current report build filters
Graph Control – Provides the option to graph reported items as pie charts, line graphs or bar graphs. When this option is selected a ‘Graph Control’ box will appear above your report. Select the type of graph you wish to use, then check the report items you want to see graphed and finally click the ‘GO’ button to generate the graph.
To print of save your graph, click on the print menu indicated with three horizontal lines and choose to print the chart or save as PNG, JPEG, PDF or SVG format.
Heatmap On/Off – Reported results can have a heat map view applied by selecting the ‘Heatmap On’ option. To remove the heat map view simply enter the report options menu and select the ‘Heatmap Off’ option.
Export to Excel – All reports can be exported to excel. Once you have selected this option you will receive a small window prompt notifying you that the report has been requested, then you will receive a secondary window prompt letting you know that your report is available to you for download. When you see the secondary prompt you will see the download link at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Click on this link and save to your local storage device of choice.
Bookmark – After you have created your report you can choose to save it to be applied in future instances or to save for future reference. To do this select the ‘Bookmark’ option.
Once this option has been selected a window will appear on the screen showing you the default system report name based on your selection criteria. You can use this opportunity to rename your bookmark before you save it. Confirm the name of your new bookmark in the open window and select ‘Save Bookmark’. You will receive an on screen message of success indicating that your bookmark has now been saved.
To access your bookmarks select the ‘Bookmarks’ link located in the top black menu bar of OnPoint. When you enter this section you will now see all of your bookmarks listed.
To view your bookmarked report click one time on the name in the list. This will provide you with 4 bookmark options:
Open – Opens he bookmark
Edit – Allows you to edit the current bookmark
Delete – Deletes the bookmark and will delete all shared instances as well
Share – Allows you to share your bookmark with other OnPoint users. When this option is selected a window will appear providing you with a list of registered users that you may share this report with.
To share your bookmark click on the green arrow next to their name and it will move their name from the ‘Un-shared Users’ list over to the ‘Shared Users’ list. To stop sharing with a user click on the red arrow in the ‘Shared Users’ list to move them back to the ‘Un-shared Users’ list.
6.Student Level Reports
Student Level Reporting
All reporting through the OnPoint system has been designed to allow the user to drill down to the student level. The final section of this training module has been designed to help you understand the ways in which you can view your data at the student level and enhance these reports through various methods.
Student List View
By clicking on any aggregate found count users will be taken to the individual student list view of that aggregate value.
Reported values can be sorted alphabetically or numerically within your list by clicking on the report header title. The first click will sort alpha A-Z or lowest to highest. Clicking again will sort the values from Z-A or highest to lowest.
Tool Options from Student List View
From within the student list view there are several tool options you can choose from. To access the list of tool options click on the ‘Tools’ to reveal the drop down selector. Here are the list of options explained.
Export to Excel – Export your student list to excel. For more information about this process reference the ‘Export to Excel’ section listed in the STAAR 3-8 Report Center section of this manual.
Bookmark – Bookmark your student list. For more information about this process reference the ‘Bookmark’ section listed in the STAAR 3-8 Report Center section of this manual.
Send Feedback – Use this link to report issues you may find with your list. The selection of this option will open a support ticket window.
Print Student Profile Cards – Selection of this option will create a student profile for every student listed in your report. This is the same student profile that can be is displayed at the individual student dashboard level. Caution: If this selection is made for a large list it can take a while to create.
Print STAAR Cards – Selection of this option will generate a STAAR card summary by selected subject for every student listed in your report. Caution: If this selection is made for a large list it can take a while to create.
The default student list view returned to can be adjusted to accommodate your needs. From within the column options section of OnPoint users can move, hide, delete or add column values. To access the column options of a list, start by clicking the ‘Column Options’ button located at the top of your list.
Adjusting Column Views
While in the column options window you will see a list of your displayed report columns. From within this screen you can adjust your column views in the following ways:
Rearrange Columns – Click and hold the blue up/down arrow and moving them up or down to place the field in the desired location
Delete Columns – Click the trash can icon
Hide Columns – Select the hidden checkbox
Display Type – Adjust displayed value to show the code value, the description or both
After you have made your adjustments/selections you must click the green ‘Done’ button to complete the process.
Adding Column Values From Other Associated Tables
A very powerful reporting option at the student level allows you to add associated data fields to your report from within the column options window. These associated values are dependent upon the files you have uploaded into the file center. Here is a step by step overview of the process.
Step 1. From within your list click on the ‘column options’ button to enter the column options screen.
Step 2. Click on the blue ‘Data Type’ button and select the data file that you want to associate with your current list values. Your selection during this step will determine the available records in step 3.
Step 3. Select the available associated record table. Only one record can be selected during this process.
Step 4. Select the associated, available column values from the record you selected in the previous step. You can select multiple column items and when you have finished your selection(s) just click on the button one more time to close the window.
Step 5. Select the year that you would like this data to be pulled from. It is possible to associate a previous years data with the current reported values.
Step 6. Click the the green ‘Add Column’ button to add these values to the bottom of the reported list. If you do not click this button, these items will not be added. After you click this button you can scroll down to the bottom of the screen to confirm that they have been added.
Step 7. Click the green ‘Done’ button at the far right of the page to finalize the process of adding these column values
Step 8. Review and repeat the process to add other columns to your report.
