STAAR EOC Performance Levels

The STAAR EOC Performance Levels Report provides up to a 5-year display of academic performance at the all campus level that can be filtered to specific campus, grade level, student population, ethnicity and gender.

Normalization of previous years standards to current standard

Readiness standards have been normalized across years for Prior to 2016-17 Standards that were not reported using the new state standard of Did Not Meet, Approaches, Meets and Masters as follows:

Prior to 2016-17 Standard Not Met = Did Not Meet
Prior to 2016-17 Standard Level II Phase in I = Approaches
Prior to 2016-17 Standard Level II Phase in II = Meets
Prior to 2016-17 Standard Masters = Masters

Explanation of represented readiness values

Aggregated values for each tested subject are not calculated by scale score but rather by subject readiness standards coded in the data file. Due to the new standards reported within the data file for tested students, there are students that can be counted more than once within the reported values of readiness.

Example:

John Doe scored a 4122 scale score in his 9th grade Algebra I exam which falls under the ‘Meets’ category. In the data file he is scored as a ‘1’ in both ‘Approaches’ as well as ‘Meets’. So you will see John Doe counted once under the Approaches Category and once under the Meets Category.

Data file value representation on report for all subjects

Meets Grade Level in (subject) = No (0) >> Reported Academic Readiness = Did Not Meet

Meets Grade Level in (subject) = Yes (1) >> Reported Academic Readiness = Meets

Approaches Grade Level in (subject) = Yes (1) >> Reported Academic Readiness = Approaches

Masters Grade Level in (subject) = Yes (1) >> Reported Academic Readiness = Masters

Total Tested (Non-Duplicate Count) – This count does not count each instance per student per subject. If a student is counted as tested in a subject they are counted only once and represented in this count.

Achievement Vs. STAAR Growth Matrix

The Achievement vs. STAAR Growth Matrix report displays a matrix of “Student Performance Level” by “STAAR Growth.” Students are listed in the matrix depending on where how they performed on the assessment.

Data Source:

  • It’s important to note you must choose between the Pearson CAF (Cumulative Assessment File) or your district Pearson results files. When choosing the CAF file you may see campuses listed that are not in your district. The CAF will include students who tested at other districts but are counted as part of your districts accountability sub-set.
  • Teacher comes from the Class Roster Winter Enrollment collection which must be uploaded into File Center

Note; In Order for the system to calculate the points needed for the student to move to the next level the user must run the report for a specific grade level. There must also be data present for each of the following fields, subject, year, scale score and language. If any of these fields are blank in the data file the system cannot calculate the needed points.

Example ;

Not Met Growth

Met Growth

Exceeded Growth

Growth Unavailable

Met Level III

Commended

Met Level II

Recommended

Bob Smith (1795) +12 Mary Hera (1851)
Level II

Not Passed

– Bob smith has a scale score of 1795 points; he needs 12 more points to move up to the “Met Level I Recommended”
– Mary Hera has a scale score of 1851 but the system could not calculate points needed to move up.
– The report categories and results will vary based on the parameters chosen.

7.STAAR_EOC_AllStudTookSTAAR #

This report looks across all uploaded STAAR files that have been uploaded into the file center and provides a list of the highest achieved scale score in each subject by student for a selected year.

This report does not look across by cohort year.

8.STAAR_EOC_CumPerfAnalysis #

This list evaluates every administrated testing file that has been uploaded to the file center and displays the Pass/Fail indicator as well as the highest scale score the student has achieved within that given subject up to the filtered year selected. The Pass/Fail status is determined by the yearly data file format location of met or not met.

STAAR 110 Percent Report

This report finds all current year students coded in PEIMS as At-Risk that had a failing grade in the prior year STAAR assessment file. The listed report will provide columns to show the previous year associated failed assessment values

Immediately following the previous year column values, the list will report any new test value that has been uploaded into the system by associated tested subject.

Example: If a student failed EOC Biology in Spring and Fall of 2016 it will list the last fail score value of the previous year as Failed Month: Fall. It will then look at the latest test scores available to determine if the student tested in the subject again.

NOTE: In cases where the assessment instrument differs from the previous year the associated new test score will be matched by assessment instrument.

Example: If a student failed STAAR 3-8 Reading and passed Eng 1 EOC the next year they get a Y for meet

110% Prior to current year association crosswalk

Attention: The 100% report has been updated to now reflect a students 110% met value only if a student has two records which align with the “110% Prior to current year association crosswalk” chart which can be found in the report notes.

Example: Prior to the release of the 11.8 update, a student that tested in writing in grade 4 would be matched against their grade 3 reading exam scores to determine if they met at 110%. If the students reading score was failed and the students writing was met at 110% this would create an indicator that the student met the 110% criteria. This would be in error.

As of update (11.8) a student that tests in grade 4 writing that fails will stay on as at risk and will have to wait until they test in grade 7 to determine if they passed at 110%.

How to view prior year to current year assessment results in report.

This report contains a lot of extra information about both the prior year and current year tested subject for informational purposes only.

The prior year met/not met references the final score for the student and will be semi-highlighted in orange. Not all current year ‘At Risk’ students failed an assessment the prior year so this report will list students with both ‘Y’ and ‘N’ score values.

For those students that have a ‘N’ in the prior year assessment met/not met column follow the line across to the current year met 110 percent column to see if they met the 110% requirement. If there is a ‘Y’ this means they failed the prior year but met the current year at 110%. If there is an ‘N’ that means they failed the prior year and they did not meet the 110% for the current year. Even if they passed the current year, the needed to pass at 110%

Current Year Met 110 Percent Column
The current year met 110 percent column will show a value for all students who are on the list regardless of prior year status. It is just there to confirm if the student passed at 110%.

Filter Options
This report may be filtered at the campus level

Items to consider if you feel you are missing associated test results
If you are not seeing an associated reported value either for the previous year or the current test cycle, please revisit your file center files to ensure that the most updated assessment values have been uploaded into your database.

Consider Exporting Table for further extraction
This report can be exported to an excel file and from there you can filter by all the prior year met/not met column to all ‘N’ values and then filter the current year met 110 percent column to either ‘Y’ or ‘N’  or you can just filter by the last column value and look for all the ‘Y’ values to see who failed the prior year but met at 110% for the current year.

STAAR EOC Academic Performance

The STAAR EOC Academic Performance Report provides up to a 5-year display of academic performance at the all campus level that can be filtered to specific campus, grade tested level, student population, ethnicity and gender.

Example:

John Doe scored a 4122 scale score in his grade 9 Algebra I exam which falls under the “Meets” category. In the data file he is scored as a “1” in both “Approaches” as well as “Meets”.
So you will see John Doe counted once under the Approaches Category and once under the Meets Category.
